Training the Labrador Retriever

Labradors are renowned for being greedy, so you have to be careful with your lunch if you are sitting quietly waiting for pigeons to come in with you dog sat by your sandwiches.

How the lab is normally used.

This breed has long and honourable associations with British game shooting. Almost any photo of a driven shooting party will feature labradors. They are well suited to a fairly stationary shooting style, so the pigeon shooter, driven game shooter, rabbit stalker, or high-seat deer stalker will find that the breed is suited to their style of work.

The breed does not traditionally hunt, so if you are walking up game, the breed is less suitable, and maybe you should consider a spaniel breed or, if game is more scarce, one of the pointing breeds.
