Re-introduction of lost species

Posted by kenny under Older News

Also in the news these last few weeks are some vigourous discussions around the subject of reintroducing species that have been hunted to extinction. These species include the European Lynx, which is capable of hunting adult Roe as well as young Red Deer; The Beaver, which is slightly less contentious; The Sea Eagle into parts of the South-East; and the Wild Boar (which is already providing some sport down around the Bristol / Gloucestershire areas).

The arguments rage mainly around the impact of these releases on local residents, who are going to suffer the brunt of the inconvenience with little of the glory of those organising the releases. The attitude of the decision takers is also angering those who are likely to be impacted.

The argument has been complicated by compensation discussions, and the likely red-tape around any impact.
